Fundraising for the NSPCC – We danced, you donated!

SUNDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER 2018
St Georges Church, Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne

Freelance Dance teamed up with NSPCC for a Dance and Donate afternoon! The aim was to put on a fabulous show for all to watch and be a part of. All dancers were non-professional volunteers, who signed up because we love to dance!

Tamma has a background in Latin and Ballroom dancing and has been dancing with Brooke of Freelance Dance since 2009, she undertook to the challenge to learn and perform five dance routines for the event!

The dance classes consist of routines that don’t require partners, but all steps are founded in traditional dance technique… for 6 weeks, all dancers trained vigorously – some participating in as many as 8 routines on the day! The highlights of the show included:

  • Dream Girls (show dance)
  • Mambo Italiano (Tap Dance)
  • Traditional Belly Dancing
  • All That Jazz from Chicago (Charleston)
  • Candyman (Jive)
  • Girls (who run the world) – Beyonce (Hip Hop)
  • From Now On from The Greatest Showman (fast…as in the film!)

The students of Freelance Dance asked our wonderful families and friends to sponsor us for our bravery and madness in participating in this public performance! We are delighted to announce that over £800 was raised in sponsorship, absolutley smashing the target of £250!

In the intervals, the audience was also given the chance to dance! A bit of line dancing… a spot of salsa… rocking our socks off to Proud Mary! It was a high energy afternoon, jam-packed with entertainment and fundraising for an excellent cause!

Through ticket sales, teas/ coffees/ cakes and a raffle – a further £1000 was raised!

Thank you to all who showed their support and/ or came along to watch.

We are so proud of our achievement and all the money we have been able to raise for the NSPCC!

NSPCC: “Child abuse is preventable, not inevitable. That’s why, every day, we work to protect children, prevent abuse and make child abuse a thing of the past.

That’s why we’re here. That’s what drives all our work, and that’s why – as long as there’s abuse – we’ll fight for every childhood. As the UK’s leading children’s charity fighting to end child abuse, we’ve remained committed to this mission for over 100 years.

But all this is only possible with your support. As an independent charity, which receives around 90% of its funding from supporters, we rely on the support of people like you to make sure we can keep every child who needs us safe. Every pound raised and every penny received will help make sure we can reach more children.
